VERY IMPORTANT PRINCIPALS (VIP) Character Education Program. This community-wide program focuses upon nine words of the month to promote an educational environment based upon making ethical
choices, along with academic achievement. These words are: August/September - Responsibility, October - Courage, November - Respect, December - Service, January - Honesty, February - Caring, March- Fairness, April - Self-control, and May through July - Citizenship. VIP has been embraced throughout the district and the communities that comprise our school district - just look for the signs at various parks!

Parenting Plus Seminars. The program itself focuses on the difficulties of of parenting and offers suggestions and help where needed. The BEA researched, surveyed, and implemented this program with the help and cooperation of participating employers.
On Oct. 2, 2014 a drawing was held at the Highland Middle School Parenting Plus Tech Fair where three winners took home Chromebooks that had been donated by members of the BEA !!!

Reality Store. Each September at the Highland Middle School, eight graders participate in a two-hour life skills simulation. Each student chooses a career that matches his/her interests and abilities, receive a "monthly paycheck," and experience the financial obligations that adults deal with every day. Business representatives operate "stations" at which students pay taxes and utilities, obtain housing, transportation, insurance, groceries, clothing, child care, plan leisure activities, and even spin the "Wheel of Fortune" to experience some of life's unexpected events. The activity concludes with a career planning session.
Dozens of volunteers are involved in this fun and real-life experience. Not only is this a benefit for the students, but it has also continued a partnership between the program's sponsors, the Highland Business & Professional Women's Organization and the BEA.
